McSherry Scholarship Winners Announced
May 4, 2020
MINNEAPOLIS—ECMC Group, a Minneapolis-based nonprofit focused on helping students succeed, announced today the winners of the Sue and Chip McSherry Scholarship. The award supports students at Totino-Grace High School who are planning to pursue career and technical education after graduation.
The recipients are Marilyn Bonete-Cortez and Joseph Reak, who will graduate this year. Each student will receive $1,250 in support of their education.
Bonete-Cortez plans to study cosmetology at Aveda Institute. She hopes to one day own a salon so she can help people feel good about themselves both inside and out. Reak will pursue a degree in construction management from Dunwoody College of Technology. He recognizes the labor shortage of construction professionals and hopes to run his own crew in the future.
The Sue and Chip McSherry Scholarship was developed in 2019 after the passing of Sue McSherry, who was a founding member of ECMC. Her husband Chip still works for the organization. The McSherrys are lifelong supporters of Totino-Grace and believe every student should have the opportunity to pursue education beyond high school. To help support this belief, ECMC Group established a scholarship fund in their names to provide funding for Totino-Grace students who are interested in pursuing career and technical education as their path to a career. Funding for the scholarship was made possible by ECMC Foundation.
"We are inspired by students who pursue career and technical education, which ECMC Group supports across its business," said Jeremy Wheaton, president and CEO of ECMC Group. "It is an honor to provide these scholarships, which will help fuel the future workforce while recognizing employees who are key pillars of our organization."
