ECMC Group Responds to Verdict in Derek Chauvin Trial

April 21, 2021

On Tuesday, April 20, Derek Chauvin was found guilty on all counts for the senseless death of George Floyd in our home city of Minneapolis. We applaud the verdict and appreciate the jury’s careful deliberation on the evidence presented.

First and foremost, we extend our hearts to the family and friends of George Floyd, who have endured unspeakable pain and anguish over the past year. As they look ahead, may they find solace in the jury’s actions.

While we are heartened by this announcement, we also are well aware that there remain many instances of injustice that have yet to be addressed and rectified in our country. This verdict is a positive step. However, there is much work to be done to heal our communities and provide peace to all our nation’s citizens.

As an organization, we believe every person should have the opportunity to live and to thrive—free from prejudice and violence—and to be served by a justice system that works equally for all.

We remain committed to helping all our fellow Americans, including African Americans and the underserved populations we serve, reach their full potential, and we will continue to play an active role in meeting that challenge head-on in the days and weeks to come.
