The most in-demand jobs in Houston won't require a four-year degree from an institution of higher education. A high school grad can get a well-paying job as soon as six months.
Welders, cutters, solderers and metal workers are projected to be some of the most in-demand jobs in Houston by 2026, as there is expected to be openings in all these positions of about 2,530 per year, data from the Texas Workforce Commission shows.
That is no surprise to Delilah Olivares, director of career services at Altierus Career College, who reported that middle skill careers are some of the most needed around the Bayou City.
"We're trying to close that labor and skills gap. The need is rather large," Olivares said. "Houston has been growing and doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon."
