Altierus Career College Launches Surgical Technology Program

July 11, 2018

Atlanta Demand for Skilled Workers in this Field Outpaces National Average*

Norcross, Ga.—With local demand for surgical technologists expected to grow more than 11 percent over the next few years in the Atlanta area, Altierus Career College has launched an associate degree program to meet the need.

Altierus is currently enrolling students for the program, which will begin in August.

"Surgical technologists play an essential role on a healthcare team in a field that offers opportunities for growth," said Moses Delaney, campus director of Altierus Career College-Norcross. "We are excited to offer this program and partner with area hospitals and surgery centers where students will receive a portion of their training."

Atlanta Aesthetic & Reconstructive Surgery Center is one of the organizations Altierus has partnered with to provide students with hands-on instruction.

"As a clinical site, Atlanta Aesthetic & Reconstructive Surgery Center strongly values the new students we're able to work with and teach each year," said Dr. Frederick T. Work, board certified plastic surgeon at Atlanta Aesthetic & Reconstructive Surgery Center. "We rely on colleges and universities like Altierus to send us prepared, enthusiastic students ready to immerse themselves in the healthcare field."

Students enrolled in the 24-month program will receive hands-on instruction in the school's surgical technology lab. The lab simulates state-of-the-art operating rooms with equipment that includes HD endoscopy devices, an anesthesia machine, a carotid endarterectomy simulator and anatomically correct manikins with functioning organs. The program also includes certification testing.

In addition to diploma and degree programs, Altierus supports students with professional skills development, resume development, job interview practice, externships, and job placement assistance. Recognizing that a student's success relies on a balance between the demands of daily life and their education, Altierus provides ride-share programs, library computers, tutors, and other resources to help provide continuity to students in their school experience.
